Eric O'Toole | Principal, Design Director
Eric has been creating interpretive, interactive exhibitions for close to 20 years. He has devoted his career to incorporating the missions, visions, creative passions and scholarship of his clients into top-notch exhibitions. Eric began his career in exhibition design at the Brooklyn Children's Museum where he worked with a talented team of designers, planners, and educators. Eric designed, fabricated and maintained exhibits for over six years at the museum, gaining a deep and abiding appreciation for both the complexity of the interactive exhibit development process and the challenge of building hands-on exhibits that can continue to perform despite an enthusiastic young visitor. He has taken these practical lessons to heart and continues to build on this with each project he does by designing exhibits that take advantage of the strengths of every member of the team and balancing that with thoughtful design that is clear, communicative and solid as a tank.
Eric is also deeply committed to education. He believes that one of the great pleasures of this work is the opportunity to dive into an exhibitions content with the project team and work together to translate it into an experience which will touch every visitor and inspire them to want to learn more. Eric holds a degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute, in addition to coursework in Early Childhood Education from the Bank Street College of Education. He has been a formal educator, serving as a Professor at Pratt Institute for over 15 years where he teaches graduate courses in exhibition design and graphic design.
He has presented and conducted workshops in exhibition planning and design for a number of organizations including Bank Street College of Education, the British Interactive Group, the Museum Education Roundtable, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums and the Association of Children's Museums. Eric's work has won recognition by the American Association of Museum and the Association of Children's Museums, Print Magazine and the Art Director's Club.
Eric oversees all aspects of the design and development work performed by Exhibit A, and provides project management design direction, and production management for every project. In addition he also guides planning, research, content development and all aspects of exhibition evaluation.
